THIS IS ME
Louisa Goffredi Franks
Psychology is my passion
Psychology is my passion, and I mean that in the way that people mean it when they read about a subject in their own time, just for the joy of it.

What drew me to psychology, and what keeps me fascinated after more than two decades, is that it sits at the intersection of the scientific and the deeply human. We can map the brain, sequence genes, and run controlled experiments, yet we still cannot fully explain what it means to think, feel, or be conscious. I find that endlessly compelling. Some of my most memorable experiences have come from moments that brought that tension to life: holding a human brain and confronting the idea that everything a person ever was could be contained in something so physical; visiting CERN and coming away thinking less about the universe and more about the fact that we still do not fully understand ourselves.
I read widely around the subject, and I am genuinely excited when students ask questions that go beyond the specification. There is no such thing as an off-topic question in psychology.
Outside of tutoring, I love fitness: weights, cardio, Pilates, and dance. I find psychology everywhere in it, in the way goals and rewards shape behaviour, and in how reframing a thought mid-workout can have an immediate effect on performance. I also have a mild obsession with quizzes and puzzles, which probably says something about me as a psychologist.
I became a teacher because I wanted to share this subject with people. I became a tutor because I wanted to give every student my full attention.

HOW I WORK
Unlike many tutors, I am a fully qualified teacher with a PGCE and over 20 years of classroom experience. That distinction matters: I do not just know the subject, I know how to teach it.
All sessions take place online and are built around what the student actually needs. I begin each lesson by asking what they want to focus on, rather than arriving with a predetermined plan. A Level students know where their gaps are, and that student-led approach makes for more focused, more productive sessions.
I offer one-to-one tuition as well as small group sessions for up to three students, which are available at a reduced rate. Whether you are looking for regular sessions to build understanding over time, or targeted help in the run-up to exams, I can accommodate both.
I am DBS checked, and all sessions are conducted with the safeguarding of students as a priority.
CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Education is not static, and neither are the needs of students. Alongside my teaching and examining work, I regularly complete professional development courses to make sure my practice stays current and my students get the best possible support.
My completed Open University courses cover understanding dyslexia, teaching tricky topics, online teaching, and mental capacity. I am currently completing a course on mental health in young adults, because understanding what a student is dealing with outside of the session is often just as important as what happens within it.
This is something I will continue to add to over time.
